Landesign were asked to prepare a Planning Application and Environmental Statement (ES) related to an extension to Wilnecote Quarry, as part of its brick manufacturing opertations. The extension to the quarry released a large reserve of nationally important Etruria Marl, to make high quality bricks and significantly extend the life of the brickworks.
The extension was particularly challenging as the site is overlooked by a residential area, with a new housing estate only 100m away from the quarry. Our landscape and visual impact assessment identified key visual receptors, and informed the overall proposals to ensure that the effects on the residential properties were minimised.
Landesign produced the application plans in conjunction with a wide-ranging team of environmental specialists, prepared a final restoration scheme focused on biodiversity enhancement, produced and managed the preparation of an environmental statement, undertook the landscape and visual impact assessment and pursued the planning application through to the granting of planning permission.
