Condover Quarry Sand and Gravel Extension

Landesign led a team of top consultants to gain a planning permission for a large extension to a sand and gravel site on the England-Wales border, near Condover.

The proposed development was an unallocated quarry extension site with a number of environmentally challenging issues to overcome before permission could be granted. The site sits next to a RAMSAR and SSSI as well as being close to a local village.

The extension area is highly visible, so a lot of effort was put into a working scheme that allowed it to be worked in the least intrusive way without any unacceptable impacts on the local landscape by utilising the local topography and careful phasing of the works.

Local community benefit will be delivered by providing highway improvements and an important new local footpath link, requested by the local community, to help establish better pedestrian connections between local villages.

The existing quarry has been established for over 50 years and already provides extensive and growing biodiversity net gain, and the extension is intended to enhance this further by creating a wider habitat onto which wildlife from the SSSI / RAMSAR site can expand.
